If you start getting weird messages with your email program, you can try using webmail to see if you are able to connect that way. To do this, just use your favorite web browser to go to a web address like http://webmail.yourdomain.com. Just add "webmail." before your domain and you'll see a login screen. Then just enter your email address and password to log in. This also acts as a handy way to check email when you're away from your computer.
